Pre-Raphaelites and the Book

Many artists in the Pre-Raphaelite group not only designed and illustrated books, but they were also writers and poets. This installation includes books of poetry written by Dante Gabriel Rossetti and William Morris in 1848-1900, wood-engraved illustrations and materials related to the Kelmscott Press by Morris in 1891. These illustrated books from the press are displayed near Morris’ elaborate ornament designs and his manuscripts illumination which he was inspired from medieval times. These works are from the National Gallery of Art Library and Mark Samuels Lasner Collections, on loan to the University of Delaware Library.
